Cherie Jordan: Photographer, Author and Illustrator

While I call Montgomery County, Maryland home, my photography takes me far beyond the Washington D.C. area in search of compelling images.  My biggest inspiration for photography is the great outdoors, which in turn has shaped a gallery full of wild spaces and natural beauty. My creative spirit drives me to experiment with photo manipulation and motivational art.  I recently tried my hand at still-life photography.  It was a steep learning curve, but one that I found very rewarding and was able to produce a few photos that I am truly proud to share.

I am also the proud author and illustrator of a published children’s book; Hudson Learns a Lesson. The book is about a gosling that gets into trouble after making a big mistake. I had followed a family of geese for two weeks; using my original photographs to illustrate their journey, I then creatively transformed those photos into a beautiful watercolor format to bring the story to life. The book can be ordered through Amazon and Barnes and Noble. ISBN# 979-8-8230-0521-0

Locally, my photographs have been featured in numerous events sponsored by Montgomery Arts Association (MAA), as well as several juried exhibitions throughout the region. I am deeply grateful and proud that many of my photographs have found a lasting place in private collections.

Luna moth on tree bark

Luna Moth

I have been asked a number of times, “Why is the Luna Moth your logo?” The answer lives at the intersection of folklore, resilience and personal healing. In Cherokee tradition, the luna moth brings moonlight to earth to illuminate dark paths. After the profound loss of my three sisters and best friend, photography became the spark that began leading me out of my own long darkness.

The turning point came when I found a breathtaking luna moth on my hickory tree. Gazing at her, I felt a powerful, divine connection in my soul. When the time came for my first public art exhibition, I was struck with intense fear and vulnerability. Remembering that magnificent creature gave me the strength to stand tall. She reminded me of my own resilience and gave me the courage to share my vision.

As a signature of authenticity, a subtle luna moth is printed on every photograph that I authorize. It is my personal promise of quality and a reminder of the fleeting beauty found in nature.
