Celestial Series

The Celestial Series is a visual tribute to the sky’s greatest masterpieces.  From the first golden rays that awaken earth to the apricot, crimson and magenta canvas of a setting sun, to the luminous glow of a full moon. This collection of images preserves extraordinary moments provided by Mother Nature.  Many Native Americans view the Sun and Moon as sacred relatives rather than celestial bodies. The Apache and Ojibwe welcome the morning with “Sunrise Ceremonies”.  The Anishinaabe (Ojibwe, Odawa, and Potawatomi) view the Grandmother Moon, which they call NOKOMIS, as a vital guide for living in harmony with the earth.  Celestial moments like these serve to remind us all to respect and take care of our beautiful planet.

Sunrise on Lake Erie -A spectacular morning on the shores of Lake Erie. The sky bloomed in varying hues of gold, split by bands of dark feathery clouds that were traced in glimmering light. The sun peeked through the haze, spilling a soft ribbon of liquid gold, where two ducks leisurely drifted in the foreground.

Dawn's Golden Peace - I can remember it being so calm and peaceful, while small waves quietly lapped the boulders beneath us. Feathery clouds were silhouetted against the golden glow of the sun as it slowly rose and reminded me that we all have this new day to start over again, perhaps doing this day better than the last. Occasionally, gentle waves would catch the light, creating a bright metallic gold shimmer across the water. I snapped another shot, hoping to do this beautiful sight justice.

Delirium on the Embankment -A hazy, brilliant moon hung so low it mimicked a late sun, tricking my tired mind into a brief twilight delirium. Walking the embankment, the world belonged to wildlife. An alligator rippled through the water, a kingfisher kept watch, and waterfowl flocked to the trees for the night. From my high vantage point, watching the moon reclaim the sky, I captured this moment.
